How to Remove Backgrounds from your Photographs

Have a photograph in mind for your order of service booklets, but there’s something in the background you’d rather leave out?
Not a problem — you can easily remove the background using our editor.

Step 1

First, upload your photograph into our editor. There are two ways to do this:
Option 1: Click on the pre-set image area in the template. This will automatically open your device’s local drive, allowing you to select and insert your photograph directly into that space.
Option 2: Select Upload from the menu on the left-hand side of the editor, then drag and drop your photograph into the image area on the template.

Step 2

Once you’ve added your photograph to the design, you can remove the background. Simply click on the photograph, and a menu will appear at the top of the editor screen. Click the camera icon with a diagonal line through it to remove the background from your photo.

Step 3

After removing the background, you may want to adjust the position of the photograph or resize it to better fill the space available within the template.

Step 4

You can also apply simple edits to your photograph — such as adding filters or adjusting brightness and contrast — using our editor. To do this, select Edit Photo, which is the icon just to the left of the background removal tool.

Frequently Asked Questions - Removing Backgrounds from photographs

Can I undo the background removal if I change my mind?

You can undo the background removal, but this will remove the photograph from your design.
However, the original photograph will still remain in the editor — you’ll just need to re-add it to the image area where you want it to appear.

JPEG and PNG file formats work best in our editor. Photographs with very busy backgrounds may not work as well with the background removal tool.

Our editing tool is available on mobile devices, however we strongly advise against using mobile devices for creating the order of service design. For best experience, it is highly recommended to use desktop devices.
