How to group items

In this guide, we’ll explain how to group items when using our editing tool.

This is especially useful when repositioning items on your design, or aligning multiple items to ensure they are positioned perfectly for print.

Grouping items: Step 1

Click on the items you wish to group. A row of options will appear at the top of the editing screen. Select the Grouping icon (hovering over it will display “Group Items”).

In this guide, we’ve grouped the image area and its border together to ensure the border remains attached to the photo.

Grouping items: Step 2

Once the items are grouped, a new row of editing options appears at the top of the editor. There are three main options for grouped items:

A. Colours – Adjust the colours used on any elements where colour is changeable.
B. Alignment – Use the Align tool to move the grouped items together as a single unit.
C. Shape/Size – Use the small blue squares around the group to adjust the size or shape of all grouped items.

In this example, the photo area and its border have been changed from an oval to a circular shape.

After ungrouping, each item can be edited separately. You can add photographs, adjust text blocks, or preview your design to ensure everything looks correct.

Why would I need to group items?

The grouping tool is useful when adjusting multiple items at once. You can change colours, alignment, and shape or size of items as a group, helping to ensure consistency and accuracy across your design.

How can I ungroup items?

To ungroup items, select the group and click the same icon used to group them. When hovered over, the icon will display “Ungroup Items.”

Why won't the photo area allow me to add a photo when in a group?

Items must be ungrouped to be edited individually. This includes adding photographs to designated photo areas in your design.

Can I group multiple photographs?

Yes. However, we recommend grouping the image areas and adjusting their size or alignment before adding photographs, for a smoother editing experience.

Can I align a group of items without changing their layout?

Yes. By grouping items first, you can align the entire group while keeping the relative positions of each item intact.

Can I group text boxes and images together?

Yes. Any combination of items can be grouped, allowing you to move and align them as a single unit.

Will grouping affect my final print layout?

No. Grouping only affects how items are edited in the editor. Once printed, the layout will appear exactly as designed. However, you cannot edit grouped items as individual elements. Therefore ensure to ungroup items if individual adjustments are needed.
